Psychography

-John Moraga

Psychography is the process of writing by spiritual agency or psychical means. Also known as automatic writing or spiritual writing, psychography has been the shadow author of some of the most influential and detrimental magical systems around the world throughout history. A mimicked version of it has also been used as a parlor trick and as part of a stage illusionist's repertoire. In fact, predictably, atheists and skeptics of the spiritual realm ridicule psychography as simply the written documentation of a person's stream of consciousness. However, their ignorance is little more than comedy. So, let us consider how psychography has impacted the world.

Pshychography is a cousin of scrying. It requires intense meditation and psychological submission to demonic influence, in order to receive some type of communication or message. It rarely requires the elaborate drama of ceremonial magic. Rather, when a person has reached a certain level of concentration and given himself over to the control of a spiritual influence, he volitionally becomes the conduit of demonic communication and begins to write the message(s) he receives. The objective of the psychographer is to suspend conscious thought, in order to dictate the message of the spiritual realm (typically a single demon). This can be accomplished at a very peripheral level by the average magician or sorcerer, but it is extremely rare for a person to reach the depths of psychography. In fact, there are only a handful of notable times in history when a person has been able to effectively convey the message of a demon from the darkest halls of psychography, in order to establish a *magically religious system, which has impacted a significantly large number of people.

I will now present four very brief examples of the most influential magical systems derived through psychography. However, a deeper study and research of these examples are highly encouraged.

1. Mohamed

Corresponding demon: Jibril (supposedly the angel Gabriel)

Corresponding magical system: Islam

The conflict between the Holy Scriptures and the Quran is a direct result of how the Quran came into existence. The Quran was dictated through the psychography of Mohamed. The Allah of the Quran is not the same God of the Bible, irrespective of what some religious academics attempt to propagate. Mohamed invoked the demon of Jibril in the desert of Arabia, in order to receive the message of the Quran. The heterodoxy of Islam's theology was exacerbated by the abhorrent life of Mohamed, as he led armies to spread Islam by the sword throughout the eastern hemisphere and even into the Western world. Today, nearly two billion Muslims have been hypnotized by the magic of Mohamed's psychography, and so-called apologists try to rationalize that Islam is a religion of peace and a force for good (never mind its numerous blasphemies and historical trails of blood). It is important to recognize that many Muslims are of good moral character, who may be genuinely oblivious to how their religion was actually founded. However, they do follow a religion that is based on lies, which were communicated by demonic influence. Thankfully, there is a growing number of former Muslims who have converted to Christianity in our generation.

2. John Dee (via Edward Kelly)

Corresponding demon(s): Madini (and dozens of others)

Corresponding magical system: Enochian Magic

Corresponding text: Various private journals of Kelly containing an alphabet and a linguistic system of Enochian.

Few systems have left as much of a legacy on modern Western magical systems as the Enochian Magic of John Dee and Edward Kelly. Far greater of an influence than the Siberian Rasputen, England's John Dee was an actual historical figure on par with the mythical Merlin. John Dee was Queen Elizabeth I's personal conciliare and the quintessential magician. He was an academic and pioneering scientist at a time in history when objective science was indistinguishable from subjective magic. However, Dee was well aware that his pursuits were not theologically kosher. He consciously sought hidden knowledge, which was only available to an exclusive few. So, he partnered with fellow occultist and scryer, Edward Kelly, in order to annotate the messages conveyed to Kelly during his trances of scrying. As a result, they acquired a supposed ancient language, Enochian, as well as the basis for a magical system. Today, many occultists credit their work as pivotal in the development of various Western magical systems.

3. Joseph Smith

Corresponding demon: Moroni

Corresponding magical system: Mormonism

Corresponding text: "The Book Of Mormon"

Claiming to be a "restoration" of true Christianity, Joseph Smith founded The Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter Day Saints, Mormonism. Amidst the Second Great Awakening of the 19th century in the United States, Mormonism was weaved into the fabric of American occultism. As a young man, Joseph Smith claimed to receive an exclusive message from the "angel" Moroni. This communication was supposedly the articulation of the true Church of Christianity, and the basis for the cannon of Mormonism. Drawing greatly from the already established occult teaching of Freemasonry, Joseph Smith instituted several other heterodox doctrines, most famously the practice of polygamy (contemporary mainstream Mormonism no longer supports polygamy). Although once broadly recognized as an aberration, Mormonism eventually became heavily involved in mainstream American politics and cultural Americana. The 21st century saw a Mormon, Mitt Romney, seek the office of the leader of the free world, and win the nomination of a major political party to support his bid.

4. Aleister Crowley

Corresponding demon: Aiwass

Corresponding magical system: Thelema

Corresponding text: "The Book Of The Law"

Aleister Crowley was undeniably the preeminent British occultist of the 19th and 20th centuries, but his legacy remains influential throughout the world in the 21st century. He authored several books, but his most notably impactful work was "The Book Of The Law," a product of psychography. Evoking and invoking the demon Aiwass, Crowley penned this infamous occult opus. Although many serious occultists have dismissed him for submitting occultism to popular culture (thus diluting is efficacy), he introduced the world to magical teachings for a new age, which were accessible to the average person. He acquired posthumous reverence among several celebrity adepts around the world during the late 1960's and early 1970's, during a hedonistic era of "sex, drugs, and rock 'n roll." As his teachings were rediscovered, they were widely distributed among a budding movement, the New Age. Occultists who do not want to be associated with such a term [occult] or who are ignorant of the reality of their beliefs identify themselves as adherents of the New Age. The term does not have the historical baggage as "occult" e.g. black magic, and Crowley facilitated this trendy movement by preaching a new aeon of spiritual awakening (Crowley was not alone ushering in the New Age movement, but he was the most famous).

A distinction must be made between the divine inspiration that produced the Holy Scriptures and psychography. Understandably, one could argue that the whole of the Holy Scriptures were also dictated via psychography. Impulsively, that would be a convincing argument to disregard the Scriptures' authority. However, the various authors of Biblical cannon were inspired by God Himself and their writings were supported by historically theological precedent. For example, the Judaic message of the synoptic gospels did not diverge so far from ancient Judaism that it was unrecognizable to first century Jews. Psychographers typically claim to draw authority from sources other than the one true God, and communicate teachings antithetical to biblical orthodoxy. However, I do not claim to be an academic apologists. Theologians far greater than I can offer a more studious defense of the Scriptures. I am simply offering my intimate knowledge of the occult to shed some light on the practice of psychography.

Psychography is as ancient as the written word itself and it is still employed by aspirational occultists in our contemporary world. It is as dangerous today as it was during its inception!

*It should be noted that psychography is heavily employed to compose music and write song lyrics (I will write a separate article in the future addressing this topic "Psychography II").
